The Project

To design and deliver custom precast bridge and drainage infrastructure for a section of the Mumbai Ahmedabad Expressway.

The Challenge

This project had various challenges, with massive variations in cushion depths, the requirement for over 150 load combinations, and a very short construction timeline.

The Solution

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Expressway is one of the densest transport corridors in the country; it connects the financial capital, Mumbai, with the business city, Ahmedabad. This eight-lane carriageway is being constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). It passes through the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat, along with the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

We designed and delivered precast box culvert solutions to replace site-cast and hume pipe works to speed up the construction of this busy, dense corridor in the Vadodara-Kim stretch.

With cushion depths ranging from 500mm to 10m and a height of 2m, these 19 bridges saw the light of day much earlier than predicted. In compliance with IRC norms, these bridges were designed for Class AA and Class 70R load-bearing capacity.

We also contributed to the drainage system used on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Expressway and provided 50 km of shoulder drainage in line with the hydraulic parameters provided by the client.
