To design ICT ducts and Box Culverts for the Dholera Special Investment Region.
This project’s primary challenge was designing a solution for the low soil quality, working around the constant water logging issue, and creating leak-proof infrastructure.
Our ICT duct solution pioneered using precast concrete solutions for ducting in India. We ideated, designed and engineered in precast concrete what even the industry leaders could only think in cast-in-situ. The Dholera SIR order for ICT ducts is the largest order for a single-size precast component ever seen by FUJI, globally. Inspired by the PU Drain (T6) but designed for Indian highway load-bearing, this unique product accounted for 129km of ICT ducts.
In our design, we accounted for the lousy soil quality of the coastal region and the fact that these ICT ducts were placed on top of much larger Box Culverts. We tailored a solution that ensured the ICT ducts were fire-safe, water-resistant, and sturdy.
FUJI Silvertech also provided 15km of Box Culverts seated under these ICT ducts. Considering the region and the waterlogging concern, it was of utmost importance to offer Box Culverts at less risk of opening at the joints to ensure water does not seep inside and affect the road level. For the first time in India, we introduced underground Box Culverts with a 3mm groove for rubber gaskets to guarantee a premium leak-proof solution. We also provided 2000 chambers of a customised size in the Box Culverts to make maintenance more manageable and accessible.
As quality was crucial for the client, we devised a unique quality assurance plan where components were only dispatched after weekly inspections and approvals by the client and us.
Our team assisted with installation, which required coordinating with various groups from the client’s side, including the site team, quality control, planning, storage, accounts and even consultants. The vast breadth of the project lasted a little over three years and ended with a client who was more than satisfied with our solutions.
